How To Use:
Use the templates below to create unique and engaging intros for your interview episodes. Your unique intro is your hook for the episode. Unique intros should be under a minute, so you don’t lose the listener. The meat of the episode is in the interview, so don’t give it away! Your goal is to share the big felt-need reason your listener needs to tune in for your guest. Pump up your listeners for what’s coming.
Episode Setup
Unique Intro > Transition Music > Interview > Canned Outro
The examples below are for a show setup without a canned intro. If you use a canned intro, you do not need the “welcome and brand promise” in your unique intro formula.
OUTLINE ONE | YOUR TRANSFORMATION
Formula: Your “Holy Smokes” moment + welcome and brand promise + mini guest bio + why they need to hear the interview
Example: “Y’all! Today I had my heart and mind completely shaken about how I see my body – and how I THINK about my body. I mean, I will be sitting with this for a few weeks and going to try to apply this in my own life. Welcome to Back to Ballet, the podcast where we tackle industry norms and break narratives that hold dancers back. I’m your host, Samantha Hollyfield. I cannot wait for you to hear from Meagan Finley Bodden. She is a former professional ballerina, author, self-image coach, and ED champion. I don’t know a single person that hasn’t struggled with negative self-talk. Meagan will give you practical tools to shift your thinking and, ultimately, your life! This interview is THAT powerful. Let’s dance!”
OUTLINE TWO | CALL ‘EM OUT!
Formula: Call out target audience + mini guest bio + welcome and brand promise + call out yourself + why they need to hear the interview
Example: “Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought, ‘I wish my stomach looked different. Why isn’t my skin smooth? I don’t have the body for this outfit.’ Y’all, today I spoke with Meagan Finley Bodden. She is a former professional ballerina, author, self-image coach, and ED champion. AND she called me out. Welcome to Back to Ballet, the podcast where we tackle industry norms and break narratives that hold dancers back. I’m your host, Samantha Hollyfield. It turns out, I need to work on my inner voice because she can be mean! Meagan will give you practical tools that will shift your thinking and, ultimately, your life! This interview is THAT powerful. Let’s dance!”
OUTLINE THREE | KILLER QUOTE
Formula: Killer quote + personal thought + welcome and brand promise + mini guest bio + why they need to hear the interview
Example: “Your thought life becomes your reality. Whether you’re conscious of it or not, eventually, what you tell yourself you are capable of will either hold you back or help you soar.” Meagan Finley Bodden shared this with me today, and it got me thinking in my own life about what I’ve told myself I can or can’t do – I wonder how my life would have been different if I’d had a different personal narrative at 22. Welcome to Back to Ballet, the podcast where we tackle industry norms and break narratives that hold dancers back.
