Are you wondering what content you should post online to attract clients? Or asking yourself, what do I say online to grow my brand? You’re not alone. Many small business owners, consultants, creatives, and mission-driven brands feel overwhelmed by the pressure to post constantly without seeing results. The truth is, it’s not about posting more, it’s about posting the right content.

Know Your Target Audience First

Before you think about creating content, you need to know who you’re speaking to. Understanding your target audience’s demographics and psychographics are essential.

When applying that info to creating content, ask yourself:

  • Where does my audience actually spend time online and what’s their mindset when they’re there?
(Are they scrolling to relax, searching to solve a problem, or networking for business?)

  • How does my audience prefer to engage with content?
(Do they like quick reels, in-depth blogs, step-by-step tutorials, or thought-leadership posts?)

  • What frustrates or delights them about the digital experiences they already have?
(Is your website easy to navigate, fast, and mobile-friendly, or does it create barriers?)

  • What felt need is underneath their surface-level interest?
(Not just “I need a cleaner,” but “I need more time.” What’s the deeper motivation your content should speak to?)

  • What questions are they literally typing into Google, YouTube, or TikTok?
(And how can you answer those questions in a way that naturally points to your solution?)

  • How can I show up in ways that feel natural, not salesy, across different platforms?
(What type of post fits the context of each channel without annoying or overwhelming people?)

If you don’t know your audience, your content won’t resonate no matter how beautiful or creative it looks.

Speak to Felt Needs, Not Just Surface Wants

Your audience isn’t just looking for products or services. They’re looking for solutions to deeper problems. These are called felt needs.

For example, a cleaning company’s clients didn’t just want a clean home, they wanted more time. By creating content that spoke to this deeper desire, the company was able to generate more leads and better engagement.

When brainstorming content, ask: What’s the deeper need beneath the surface-level want? That’s the content that resonates and converts.

Answer the Questions People Are Searching For

Another powerful strategy is to literally answer the questions your audience is typing into Google and YouTube.

Think about:

  • What would my ideal client search for when they need my service?

  • What common questions do I hear all the time?

Then, create videos, blog posts, social media clips that directly addresses those questions. This approach boosts your search rankings and positions your brand as the go-to solution.

Repurpose Content Across Platforms

Don’t stop at one video or post. Repurpose your content across multiple platforms:

  • Long-form YouTube videos → SEO blog posts

  • Blog posts → Short clips for Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok

  • Clips → Posts with keyword-rich descriptions

This multiplies your reach while keeping your messaging consistent and strategic.

Create Content That Converts Without Being Pushy

Consumers don’t want to be sold to in every post. Constant sales pitches are off-putting and hurt your brand. Instead, focus on content that:

  • Speaks to felt needs

  • Answers questions

  • Offers solutions

When your service or product naturally shows up as the solution, people are more likely to take action without feeling pressured.

Keep a Running List of Content Ideas

Remember: you don’t need to answer each question once and move on. Create multiple pieces of content around the same idea, using different titles, visuals, and hooks. Over time, you’ll discover which ones gain the most traction and drive conversions.
